Absolutely satisfying feel good food.

The snacks and dinners are very reasonably priced. Also, who doesn't love a free salad bar. Every thing is quick and tasty. It's not the most refined place but has an amazing, small town, beach charm.

My first time in Port Dover today, and to be honest, I went in thinking I was going to get ripped off when it came to finding something to eat. Rest assured, I was relieved after grabbing a cheeseburger at Knetchel's. Their location is second to none and the portion size was in line for the price paid. I will recommend and I will return.

So my friend and I had visited this place for the first time back in October. The food was quite good for what you pay. Restaurant has nice look and atmosphere. One thing that didn't sit well with her and I was the amount of paper styrofoam and plastic waste. When you are served your meal you expect it to be served on glassware with metal utensils. This place uses paper plastic and Styrofoam Inside the restaurant! I understand the use of all those things outside when on the go but seriously why are you using this inside a restaurant? Please consider a more environmentally friendly method or hire a dishwasher.

We stayed inside as the weather this time of year is cool. The seating is okay and the place was clean. There is lots of windows to serve take away in nice weather along the sidewalk out front. The waitress was friendly. The food was good. We all had the perch of course. The salad bar was okay but the plates and bowls they provide are less than adequate. I do not know why they would do this when you order the salad bar. Otherwise nice place with very good food.

This review is from when I lived in Simcoe way back in the winter of '03/'04...so I can't guarantee things haven't changed since my visits. My buddy and I would visit every weekend for lunch. I remember the hamburgers being just as great as the customer service by the friendly young waitress that served us. I'm originally from Los Angeles and was there as a missionary for my church...so I was in a foreign and cold place away from friends and family. Our trips to Knechtel Foods, in which we could relax and enjoy good food and service, was a special treat. Thank you for the fond memories...great enough for me to return 15 years later to write this review.

This is a great little restaurant at the beach in Port Dover. The food specialty is local caught Perch and Walleye. They are excellent! Other menu items are beach bar based, hamburgers, hot dogs, and Ice cream. The decor is unique, the tables are made from live edge slabs of Cypress and the remaining decor is reminiscent of a beach club. The decor on the walls has many old pictures of the area many years ago.The quality and quantity of the food is excellent. The service is fast and friendly. It is not an upscale restaurant, but serves great food in a unique environment. When the weather is good, they have an outside patio, with a take out, and order window.

Had roast beef and haddock dinners. Have a nice salad bar. It is beach side restaurant. Husband enjoyed fish dinner. Vegetables with roast beef were not very desirable. Think they had been steamed too long.

Good fish and chips.

The perch was excellent as always but they don't need a new exhaust/vent. Very smokey and hazy inside and hard to breathe. I understand the paper plates but for diners eating in, they need to do away with foam plates and bowls for the salad bar

Always excellent fish and chip dinner! Fast friendly service. Always a line up but it moves fast.

Love the fish Service not so great

I love knechtels and have been coming here since I was a little girl. Lots of good memories and good food ! The prices have gone up a bit but you get a good amount for what you pay.

I don't understand why this place has high reviews. Burger is plain and dry as hell. Hot dog is also just a regular plain item. Definitely wouldn't spend a single dollar here ever again. Sorry.

Do not care for the tartar sauce. Nothing close to what you used to serve. Where is it made? Everything else was great.

Really enjoyed the food here. A beach-side shop that wouldn't do bad if located in the city, which to me is a surprise. Fairly priced, quick service and it was nice to eat by the lake. Five stars simply because of the location; happy to finally have had good food right by the beach. Had the Lake Eerie Perch special and a milkshake.

Been a customer for about 25 years .. never been disappointed .. great service by friendly people who know how to prepare the best pickerel and perch anywhere on the South Coast of Ontario

Food was good. Our family had the fish snadwich, fish dinner and poutine. All very good!

One of the best Fish & Chips! Very friendly staff, clean place, popular even early hours on Saturday, a fresh Salad and Dessert (Jello & fruit mix) Bar free of charge with most of menu items, really delicious fish (we went for Perch) and price was amazing!!For sure we will drive to go there again!

Ordered a hot dog and a chili dog, the hot dogs were not even cooked at all and very small. Not impressed at all

Very good food at great prices

This place really needs a scrubbing as it’s really not very clean. In the age of the virus I hope they will completely clean everything, including the walls. The food however is excellent! The staff are usually young people (with a high turnover rate) and are poorly trained in their jobs and it definitely shows up in weird ways... like extra unknown charges on your bill or extra fries delivered to your table that no one ordered. This business should also think about being more environmentally friendly with the plastic cutlery and styrofoam serving pieces. So bad for the environment but I’m sure they know this and it’s probably been mentioned before. Still it’s hard to beat the great food that they make!

Best place for perch in Ontario also they have a great salad bar worth every penny this place I love the atmosphere with the old pictures of Port Dover in the 20s 30s when they used to wear a suit to the beach check it out

I remembered it to be one of the best places to eat pickerel, but today the pickerel was small and the batter on the fish was not crispy. My grandson had dino nuggets that was very uncooked.. RAW. Lucky my daughter noticed it before he ate any; he would of been very ill. I explained the situation to the manager who did not seem concern about the raw chicken nor did he apologize. The cashier was the only person from the establishment that was sorry that we got raw food. Very disappointed in your manager and his way of dealing with this situation. Please restaurant patrons, look at your food carefully before eating it.

Food is cheap and decent portions but the decor inside and outside is a dump . The owner makes a pile and has got to start making the place look more presentable. It looks like a dilapidated shed .

Food was good, they have a social distancing system that seemed to work well while I was there.

Husband was halfway through his meal and my hotdog still hadn't arrived. He held up his next fish by a piece of human hair! No apology from staff. Table was dirty and had to ask to have it cleaned. Salad bar was covered in flies, wilted, and very unappetizing. Had been told this place was great, but oh dear! Don't go! Don't go! Staff asked if we still wanted my hot dog when we left after returning our plate to the register lol no thanks ....

Good food for the price. We had the perch snack for 9.99. They know how to cook fish here. Old school salad bar included. A true beach vibe.

Its got something for everybody. I remember going here for years as a kid and enjoying it.

Food here is amazing. Prices are sort of decent. Restaurant service is good but if you stand in the outside line there is always so much confusion. I still wait and get frustrated because the perch is worth it but they really need like a number system or something like hutches in hamilton.

My husband and I had a craving for some perch so we went to Knechtel's. It was great! The staff were friendly, it was ready in just a few minutes and it was delicious as always.

I absolutely love go to this little place lake side. It's like going home for dinner. Great staff, varied seafood options and food is always fresh and tasty and hot.

Great deal on perch and pickerel dinners. Fish is tasty, hit the table hot and salad bar, while basic, is a nice addition. Detractors - frozen fries (seriously?) and single use dinnerware (plastic cutlery and paper plates in the dining room).

Love the perch but the salad bar was surprisingly good as well. Of course, the location is one of the best.
